B&D claims outing
Date: Saturday, August 24, 2024
Time: All day!
Host: David Minarik (new host!) (David Skeberdis is sick!)
Important! The Association will be providing sub-sandwiches for lunch at this outing! It is important that the Host knows how many subs to order and bring to the outing. So, please fill out any one of the signup lists! The online signup form is below.
Driving directions: This is a typical B&D outing. Maps to the B&D claims can be found here. We will meet up at "The Pad", and then spread out and prospect on the B&D claims. We will reconvene back at "The Pad" to eat lunch. For new GPANM members, who are not sure how to get to the B&D claims, Larry Weingarten (text at 505-301-0288) will meet up with you at "The Mailboxes" before 9 AM. Driving directions to "The Mailboxes" can be found here. Promptly at 9:00 AM, Larry will lead the caravan to the B&D claims.
The road: As described in the claims section, the last 2.2-miles on the road to the B&D claims is a very rough dirt road. Most vehicles, including a typical city vehicle, should not have problems, but drive slow and watch the road carefully and navigate around the ruts and rocks. If you're still unsure about your vehicle consider carpooling with someone who has driven the road.
Motivations: For new GPANM members, we have a nice paystreak on our B&D#3 and #5 claims. Maps and a discussion of the paystreak can be found here. Tom Briggs, and others, will be bringing their dry washers and other prospecting equipment, like metal detectors. This is a great opportunity to see, learn-about and operate prospecting equipment.
Be Prepared! This time of year we often experience afternoon rainstorms. So, be prepared for rain. The temperature will probably be in the mid to upper-80s, with mostly sunny skies. Elevation at the pad is 7330 feet, everything else is uphill from there. All 80 acres of the B&D claims are very rugged and not flat - the pad is the only surface that is flat! Dress appropriately! Bring and drink lots of water to stay hydrated. See you out there!

Maps to metal detecting outing
>>> for GPANM members only <<<
This is rather short notice, but below are maps to the "mailboxes", which is a common meeting-up location for new GPANM members, for outings in the San Pedro mountains. For today's metal detecting outing, an experienced GPANM member will meet new members (who don't know where the outing is to be held) at the mailboxes at 8:00AM. At 8:30AM everyone at the mailboxes will caravan to the outing. Below are a series of maps that should get you to the mailboxes. In general, from Albuquerque, head east on I-40, take Exit 175 for 14 Cedar Crest. After the exit hang to the left and proceed on to North-14. Drive north on North-14 for about 15-miles and you'll come to the intersection of North-14 and NM-344. The mailboxes are at this intersection.
